“My photographic journey reflects my love of nature. I find joy in sharing special moments and watching others respond to my images, reliving the same wonder I felt when capturing them. ”
Sharon is a recently retired elementary teacher who first fell in love with photography in her twenties, using her dad’s old Minolta and shooting on 35mm film. One of her earliest adventures with the camera was a trip to Western Canada, where she eagerly captured the dramatic landscapes and vibrant scenery. When she returned home, she vividly remembered the excitement—and the challenge—of developing nearly 20 rolls of film, carefully looking through each image to see what she had created.
Life eventually pulled her in other directions, and for many years the camera sat quietly aside. However, in her forties, Sharon rediscovered her passion for photography. What began again as an interest in landscapes soon shifted when a dear friend introduced her to wildlife photography. Birds quickly captured her imagination with their energy, beauty, and unpredictability, and they soon became her favourite subject. She often says that watching and photographing birds has given her a deeper appreciation for patience, timing, and the natural rhythms of the world.
As photography grew into a true passion once again, Sharon began to expand her focus beyond wildlife. She has recently been experimenting with new and challenging subjects such as the Aurora Borealis and astrophotography. These pursuits allow her to combine her love of learning with her creative eye, always pushing herself to grow in both technique and artistic expression.
Her teaching background continues to influence her approach, as she thrives on exploring new skills—from camera settings in the field to editing and even printing her own work. Today, many of her photographs are available in a variety of formats, from classic prints to canvases and metal displays, allowing her images to come alive in new ways.
For Sharon, photography is not only an art form but also a versatile hobby that she enjoys both in solitude and in the company of friends. She is especially drawn to the landscapes of northern and near-northern Ontario, with special places like Algonquin Park and the rugged shores of Lake Superior holding a deep connection in her heart. Through photography, Sharon continues to celebrate the beauty of the natural world while embracing her lifelong love of learning.
