Watercolour is always compelling. It can be bold and bright, or delicate and ethereal. My best work seems to paint itself. Once finished, I don’t always know for sure how it happened. ”
Sandra’s passion for the arts is fueled by a life-long love of music, dance, theatre, writing, visual arts, and education. When she began to dedicate time and energy specifically to watercolour painting, the endeavour quickly became a fulfilling and compelling balance to career and family life. As an emerging artist, Sandra’s portfolio was inspired by a mix of landscapes, architecture, flowers, and figures. Recent paintings include similar subjects developed in both watercolour and acrylic, focusing on the beauty in the world, and evoking themes of community, preservation, and peace. Working in watercolour and acrylic presents exciting challenges by allowing for contrasts, both in process and in style. Sandra’s painting techniques and colour choices reflect her consistent approach to creating work that appears calm and serene. The viewer’s attention is invited inside each painting, allowing a moment of respite to appreciate and absorb a memory of gentler times.
Sandra is a member of Scugog Arts, the Scugog Studio Tour, and the Port Perry Artists’ Association. She has participated in numerous group and solo shows in Ontario, and she enjoys teaching watercolour workshops from time to time. Her work is included in the permanent collection at the Heintzman House, in Thornhill, and at the Caledonia House B&B in Stratford, as well as in private and corporate collections across Canada.
