“A basic jewellery course sparked my passion for metal. It’s a fascinating process to take something so hard and unyielding and coax it into beautiful, timeless jewellery. “
Growing up by the ocean on the west coast, Cheryl developed a natural attraction to the flow and balance of nature. Spending summers on an island only accessible by boat, she learned how to be creative with the limited resources at hand.
In 1988, a few years after moving to Toronto, she took her first jewellery course at George Brown College. For the next 16 years, she attended night classes learning various techniques such as fabricating, wax carving, lost wax casting, silversmithing, stone setting, jewellery design and repair.
In 2004, Chained Reaction came into existence. Starting from various gauges of sterling silver and copper, she hand-winds wire into links making timeless classics and captivating original designs. Through her love of rocks and minerals, she often incorporates various gemstones in her chain-link earrings and pendants.
Recently she has been exploring the joys of forging metal on her anvil. Through carefully placed hammer strikes, she coaxes metal into fascinating twists and turns creating 3 dimensional pieces of art.
For Cheryl, it’s not just about making jewellery, she truly enjoys meeting other creative people and the inspiration that comes from sharing ideas.
