Judy Jacques

Fibre and Textile Artist

Artist Statement

I love to create beautiful and functional baskets using natural materials.

About the Artist

Judy Jacques has been sewing baskets for just over 7 years now. What began as an experiment quickly blossomed into something much more. Using cotton cord and her sewing machine, she is able to transform regular rope and cord into both functional and colourful baskets, creating beautiful storage solutions to help organize any space.

Judy uses 100% natural cotton cord which she sources from a local supplier and then she hand-dyes it all herself. Using many natural ingredients from nature – from herbs and spices to beans, seeds, flowers and herbs – she is able to create an endless variety of colours.

Judy has participated in many local markets over the years at the Station Gallery in Whitby, the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa and popping up at the Farmer’s Market in Whitby. Her work is sold all over the province in various stores and galleries where local, handmade goods are showcased.
