My name is Gwen Hovey and I am a pen and paper artist. I draw mandala inspired images incorporating shapes found in nature. I use the creative process as a form of meditation. I hope the viewer finds a similar sense of calm and balance within the image.
Meet Gwen (G.G.) Hovey, a retired person with a passion for creating mandala inspired images. She has been putting pen to paper in a serious way for about 5 years and has produced hundreds of unique designs.
Gwen has found that the creation of images can be a form of meditation and upon further reflection the creative process has become a therapeutic outlet. Each image, through repeated motifs based in nature, strives to create a sense of balance and calm. The simplicity of repetition, within the boundaries of the mandala lines, creates an final image greater than its parts. The process of creating these images has enhanced Gwen’s life long learning journey and her emotional wellbeing.
Gwen is a visual learner with some background in adult education. She hopes that the balance within her images can elicit a sense of calm for the viewer. She also wants to try to share what she has learned about some complicated issues. She knows that for some people these issues are easier to handle when shown and discussed from a visual perspective. The layering within several of her images can prompt learning and conversation such as the impact of prior generations (“Generations”), wellness goals (“Elements of Balance”) and the impact of life experiences (“As a child”).
Gwen has been able to scale her images from the size of greeting cards and wall art up to the size of a wall mural. She has done commissioned pieces as she is able to personalize the images for individuals and businesses.
Gwen’s other interests include gardening/farming, reading and being present for her family and pets.
