Growing up in Thornhill, Daina had two passions: Rocks and Art! Her passion for Rocks led her to become a Professional Geologist. Her passion for Art led her to dabble in a plethora of creative art forms. However, it wasn’t until she discovered the twisted world of wire in 2020 that she found a way to combine her passions and skills.
Daina is a self-taught wire artist who is continuously exploring various techniques that she can incorporate into her pieces. Currently, her work includes wire-wrapping and Viking knit techniques.
Daina works primarily with copper as she loves its vintage look. It’s warm and comforting like rich dark chocolate.
As a rockhound, Daina unsurprisingly gravitates towards natural stones. However, she is a firm believer in restriction-free creations. From a simple patterned bracelet to an intricate Dragon embellished with beads and cabochons, her pieces evolve from her imagination.
Daina’s inspiration comes from Nature; each piece has an organic flow. Recently, she started weaving a complementary addition to some of her pendants as a special surprise. Imagine a simple wire-wrapped cabochon of a fox with a running rabbit on the reverse woven in wire. Currently, she is going beyond wearable art jewelry to create more elaborate fine art pieces.
As an emerging artist, Daina has participated in the Uxbridge Studio Tour and Art in the Park as well as the Newmarket Artwalk and a variety of art shows. Her distinct style of copper wire work has been received well by those seeking art that is unlike anything they have seen.
Mentoring is also a skill Daina has honed since she was young. Now this skill serves her well in her workshops where she loves to share her personal tips and tricks on using wire to make beautiful creations.
