Nancy Newman – Designer
I work with natural fibres and leather to create practical and beautiful bags and accessories. Each item is thoughtfully and carefully made, one at a time.
About the Artist
Nancy Newman’s life has been about ‘women’s work’ – sewing, designing patterns and textile prints, weaving, designing, and dyeing. Nancy started this journey in earnest when she ran her own children’s clothing company, selling wholesale, and through her own store in Toronto. After many courses in pattern drafting and retail management, Nancy went back to school full-time and graduated from the Textile Studio at Sheridan College of Art and Design in Oakville. She then set up a weaving studio and wove silk shawls and kimonos for more than a decade.
From Nancy’s studio in Uxbridge, Ontario, she now creates bags and accessories from her own original designs. Conscious of the environment, she uses only pure cotton, waxed with food-grade paraffin wax, and leather, all of which are biodegradable.
Nancy takes great pride in her work, and each unique product is lovingly handmade with attention to detail and style. Straight seams, even stitching, and sturdy construction creates a finished product that not only looks good but will last.
