Danielle Hutt – Fibre
My name is Danielle Hutt of FELT. My mission is to create playful, functional art pieces and jewelry from wool and found fabrics.
About the Artist
Between having sheep when she was a young child, to her Grandma teaching me to knit as a teenager, Danielle has come to love and appreciate the amazing properties of wool. Felting wool is a very old form of art, older than knitting, weaving and spinning. There are various felting methods. She primarily does needle felting. She takes old wool blankets and puts them through the washing machine on a hot cycle to shrink, tangle and bind all of the fibres together. Then, she drys them on high heat to really seal the deal and make sure they have shrunk to their full potential. Because all wool shrinks and felts differently, she never knows what the outcome of the blankets will be. And, the tighter the weave, the easier it is to felt onto and the more detailed she can be. Now, she takes her raw wool rovings and her needle and felts designs onto my her wool canvas, then sews them into a pillow. She also creates bracelets through the art of wet felting. Each item is unique and handmade by Danielle. Design inspiration comes from her daily life which includes a hilarious on-the-go four year old, country living, 14 silly hens and a couple of weirdo hound dogs. Needless to say, she sees whimsy all around her.
Danielle has been doing Art Shows and Outdoor Markets for 6 years now. Some of which are the Rosseau Farmers Market, Muskoka Arts and Crafts Summer and Christmas Shows, One of A Kind Show in Toronto, Christmas Craft Show in Parry Sound, Riverside Craft Show in Huntsville, LoveFest in Dorset and the Baysville Arts and Crafts Show.
