Cheryl Fulcher – Jeweller
Artist Statement
Working with various materials, I found my true passion in metal. It’s amazing to take something so unyielding and coax it into beautiful jewellery.
About the Artist
Cheryl Fulcher’s jewellery is art in metal. Growing up by the ocean in West Vancouver, she developed a natural attraction to the flow and balance of nature. With the influence of her father’s ability to improvise and her mother’s eye for precision, she was destined for creativity; “If you couldn’t find what you wanted, you made it yourself”.
In 1988 she took her first jewelry course at George Brown College and ended up being a perpetual night class student for 16 years. She took a variety of courses learning various techniques such as fabricating, wax carving, lost wax casting, silversmithing, stone setting, jewellery design and repair.
In 2004, Chained Reaction came into existence. Starting from various gauges of sterling silver and copper, she hand winds wire into links making timeless classics and captivating original designs. Her chain link earring and pendants are accented by semi-precious beads and stones. Two of her original designs have been published in Lark Books “Chain Mail Jewelry, Contemporary Designs from Classic Techniques.”
Recently she has been exploring the joys of forging metal on her anvil using various types of hammers. Through carefully placed hammer strikes, metal can be coaxed into fascinating twists and turns creating 3 dimensional pieces of art.
For Cheryl, it is not just about making jewelry, she really enjoys meeting other creative people and sharing some of the knowledge she has learned to help inspire others.
