Libbie Burns – Fibre & Textile
Artist Statement
I select the colours and textures needed to wet-felt a unique piece. With water, soap and increasingly skilled hands, I create a 2 or 3D fabric result.
About the Artist
Moving from tapestry frame loom weaving and spinning to wet felt making has been a natural transition. It is exciting to gather natural fibres such as merino wool and silk and combine them using soap, water and hand agitation into functional fabric. The resulting fabric can be dedicated to 2 or 3D creative textile pieces depending on the inspiration. Responding to a curiosity to explore and expand felting techniques taught by a variety of talented artists allows Libbie to adapt the historical felting process to incorporate a more modern and complex approach to her work.
